My Poetry and Why I Write

In September 2016, I enrolled on a BA in Creative Writing at the University of Winchester. At that time, I never could have believed I would consider myself a poet just two years later; I hated the tick-box style analysis of poetry at GCSE level and thought the compulsory poetry module in my first year would be much the same. Oh, how wrong I was.

After my very first seminar with Roundhouse Poetry Slam winner Antosh Wojcik, my eyes were opened to the true nature, and power, of poetry: it is a form where no rule is compulsory, and there are no right answers. Once I understood this, I found the confidence to put my darkest days and the demons that made them, down onto paper.

In the two years since I have recorded two sets of spoken word poetry in collaboration with Splendid Fred Records, have had work accepted by magazines, and now perform my poetry regularly at open mic nights in the Hampshire area. Below are links to performances, written poems and some of the people and prompts that inspire me.
